Worksafe is warning people of the dangers of working with flammable gases

Worksafe is warning people of the dangers of working with flammable gases

It follows a court case relating to an Auckland forklift that was badly burned - with the company at fault, Tank Test, fined 300 thousand dollars.

The forklift caught fire in March 2024, igniting LPG that was being released from condemned cylinders at Tank Test in Papatoetoe.

Judge Gus Andrée Wiltens says the company could've eliminated the risk by ensuring the forklift and degassing operations never happened at the same time.

WorkSafe principal inspector, David Worsfold says the worker ended up in hospital because his employer didn't take simple steps to eliminate an obvious risk.
