The Maori Party says its decision not to travel to Waitangi next week is about giving certainty - and erring on the side of caution

The Maori Party says its decision not to travel to Waitangi next week is about giving certainty - and erring on the side of caution

It doesn't plan to attend the annual commemorations after advice from iwi... and to minimise the risk of spreading Covid-19.

Co-leader Debbie Ngarewa-Packer says they've been reliant on advisors on the ground who are feeling anxious.

She says they're really wanting to take the weight off the locals at the moment.

Ngarewa-Packer's open to reviewing their position if the situation changes.
