Disparities between Maori and non-Maori, over heart-failure medication, may go beyond financial barriers

Auckland and Otago University researchers have found Maori may be suffering more with heart issues, due to poorer access to medicines.
But while removing the five-dollar prescription fee, has taken away the financial burden, an education barrier still stands.
Auckland University's Dr Joanna Hikaka, says more knowledge from health professionals, is key to medication adherence.
She says that knowledge can help people make more informed decisions about the medications, their impact on their lives, and any alternatives.
