Opposition over a Government move to make it harder for Maori to claim customary rights over the coastlines

Currently those seeking a Customary Marine Title, only need to show they have enough control over the area to stop others from using it.
But the Government wants to return to the previous test, requiring Maori to prove they have had continuous exclusive use and ownership of the area since 1840.
Te Tai Tonga MP Takuta Ferris of Te Pati Maori, told Three this Government is testing the country over racial lines.
He says they're stripping away Maori rights, and there will be fireworks ahead as they try to progress the Bill.
