    A potential dampener for long weekend holidaymakers in the north


    MetService has issued an orange heavy rain warning for Northland, for the 24 hours from midnight tonight.

    People should expect up to 160 millimetres of rain in the north and east, and up to a hundred millimetres in the west.

    The forecaster says heavy rain may cause streams and rivers to rise rapidly, while surface flooding and slips are possible and driving conditions may be hazardous.
