Police say they've "contained" an apparent stand-off with a wanted person in Otago's Clutha District

Police say they've "contained" an apparent stand-off with a wanted person in Otago's Clutha District

The Otago Daily Times reports officers were seen retrieving firearms from an overturned van, near Clutha's Owaka, yesterday morning.

Locals say armed officers then blocked Hunt Road and put the area into lockdown, asking people to evacuate the area.

Police say they've located a person in relation to alleged firearms offending, alone in a rural property.

They say they've been talking to the person, and there's no risk to the wider public.
