Boaties are being asked to extra care in Southland's Riverton

Boaties are being asked to extra care in Southland's Riverton

The Starboard Lead Light on North Beach is out of action.

The light is one of four used by skippers to position vessels for the safest crossing point of the Riverton Bar.

Southland District Council says it's working to ensure the navigational tool will be back in action as soon as possible.

It says anyone attempting a bar crossing must wear a life jacket, regardless of the size of the boat.
