AgResearch analysis placed New Zealand at the top for efficiency, with an average carbon footprint almost half the size of the 18 other countries.
Agriculture analyst Jacqueline Rowarth says some fine tuning could create an even better result.
She says when we help farmers who are struggling, we can improve the average.
