Kiwi cyclist Jack Bauer and his teammates will be on a mission to protect Mitchelton-Scott's crown jewel for the duration of the Giro d' Italia

Kiwi cyclist Jack Bauer and his teammates will be on a mission to protect Mitchelton-Scott's crown jewel for the duration of the Giro d' Italia

Lead Mitchelton-Scott rider Simon Yates led for majority of last year's race before imploding in the final week, with Chris Froome the eventual winner.

Jack Bauer says Yates' plan this time around will be to approach things a bit more conservatively.

Simon Yates has finished second in this morning's opening stage time trial.
