Timaru's Mayor says the Government's contentious Maori Ward Bill is a good idea

Timaru's Mayor says the Government's contentious Maori Ward Bill is a good idea

The proposed law would revert settings back to the old rules, meaning council's need to hold a binding referendum if they wish to establish a Maori ward.

A parliamentary Select Committee yesterday recommended it go ahead.

Nigel Bowen says he supports the move, and if councils want to make democratic changes, they should go tot the people.
