Wellington's mayor has U-turned on plans to run again for the role in the future, and is instead eyeing up Parliament with the Green Party

Elected in 2022, Tory Whanau initially indicted she wanted three terms in the capital's top job.

But having quit as mayor this year, and despite saying she was keen to run again, she now says she's 100 percent confident she can contend for Parliament - probably in 2029.

Whanau has previously told Newstalk ZB she has her eye on the Civil Defence, Maori Development, and Foreign Affairs portfolios.

Whanau's also revealed she's joined the speaking circuit, signing up to an organisation to be a public speaker at events and conferences.
