    Net migration has fallen to a record low

    Net migration has fallen to a record low


    Stats NZ figures estimate numbers dropped to 6600 in the year to March 2021, compared with more than 91 thousand the year before - the highest in a year ever.

    Population indicators manager Tehseen Islam says they are the lowest migrant departures and arrivals since 1969 and 1986.

    Covid-19-related border and travel restrictions have played a bit role in the record drop.
