Big questions looming for our wine sector, with a US tariff hike beginning on Friday

Big questions looming for our wine sector, with a US tariff hike beginning on Friday

New Zealand joins other countries facing 15-percent, while many competing markets will continue to face only 10-percent.

NZ Winegrowers Advocacy Manager, Sarah Wilson, says our wine will need to compete on quality - rather than price.

She says each exporter will need to decide how much of the tariff to pass on.

She says it's a decision for each business, but the bigger the tariff, the more difficult it is for an exporter to absorb the cost.
