A message to not be alarmed by Treasury's forecast for house price growth to slow

A message to not be alarmed by Treasury's forecast for house price growth to slow

It's Budget 2021 forecast has growth expected to peak at 17.3 per cent in June - before dropping to 0.9 per cent next year.

Independent economist Cameron Bagrie says forecasting a slowing of appreciation in coming years is a reasonable expectation.

He says Treasury's forecasts are actually more optimistic than some others.

Cameron Bagrie says other forecasts - like Westpac's - have house prices actively falling next year on the condition of rising interest rates.
