Food price inflation is continuing to ease, although some items are getting more expensive

Food price inflation is continuing to ease, although some items are getting more expensive

Latest Stats NZ figures show overall food prices increased 1.2 percent in the year to October.

Vegetables are about 15-percent cheaper than this time last year, but fruit costs about the same.

On the other hand, ready-to-eat food prices are up 2.5 percent, and restaurant prices about 3.4.

A standard two-litre bottle of blue top milk has gone up nine-percent - and a 500-gram block of butter is about a third dearer.
