A glimmer of good news for supermarket shoppers

A glimmer of good news for supermarket shoppers

Figures due out this week are expected to show inflation has hit about 2.4 percent in the year to March -- up from 2.2 percent in the year to December.

Latest Infometrics figures show supermarket supplier costs increased 2-percent over that period.

Principal Economist Brad Olsen says while dairy prices are continuing to rise, another common household item is getting cheaper.

He says the price of olive oil -- which has been rising sharply in the past few years -- dropped slightly last month.
