Former All Blacks skipper Kieran Read has outlined the responsibility that lies with leading the national side

Scott Barrett, Ardie Savea and Patrick Tuipulotu are contenders to secure the role with incumbent Sam Cane retiring from internationals at the end of the season.

Read led New Zealand in 52 of his 127 tests.

He says captaincy is about more than on-field calls.

Read has endorsed Scott Barrett for the job.
