Steven Alker has bettered the field on the opening day of the senior British golf Open at Berkshire

Steven Alker has bettered the field on the opening day of the senior British golf Open at Berkshire

The kiwi golfer's early seven-under 63 has held up under the afternoon wave and he remains one clear of Australian Mark Hensby with the field in.

Alker says it's been a long time between visits - he recalls a 1988 boys event at the Sunningdale course.

And the two Kiwis - Momoka Kobori and Amelia Garvey - are well down the field at the women's Scottish Open.
