Roger Federer's pleased to get an opening round win to start his Australian Tennis Open in Melbourne

The 20-time grand slam winner has opened his campaign with a straight sets win over American Steve Johnson.

Federer's last tournament was in November at the ATP World Tour finals but the Swiss' workrate suggested he hasn't spent his downtime hunkered over a pot of fondue.

Novak Djokovic and Ash Barty dropped a set apiece to advance to the second round in the night session.
