Beauden Barrett believes test play-makers have less time than ever to deal with opposition defences

His comments come as he prepares to take his sabbatical to Japanese rugby club Suntory Sungoliath over the new year and beyond.

Instead of quarantining in New Zealand, he heads to Tokyo with his family for Christmas and an estimated 1.5 million dollar deal.

Barrett says the All Blacks quest to get the ball to space for their outside backs remains a conundrum against increased defensive line speeds.



Barrett says ideally he'd operate as a 10 who pushes back to 15 within the All Blacks environment next year.
