Valerie Adams has become New Zealand's most successful female Olympian

Adams has claimed bronze in the women's shot put in Tokyo with a best throw of 19.62 metres, adding to the gold medals she won in 2008 and 2012 and her silver in 2016.

With five Olympic medals, only kayakers Ian Ferguson and Paul MacDonald and equestrian Mark Todd have more than Adams.

Games shot put debutant, 22-year-old kiwi Maddison-Lee Wesche has thrown a personal best of 18.98 metres to finish sixth.
