Retail New Zealand is warning dismal Boxing Day sales reinforces there's a way to go for consumers to be ready to spend again

New Worldline data reveals sales on December 25 were down 12.4-percent compared to 2024.

Retail NZ Chief Executive Carolyn Young says most extra household expenditure went on purchases earlier in the year.

She says maybe Black Friday sales ate into cash formerly saved for Boxing Day.
