Data suggests volunteer firefighters are pulling more than their weight

Data suggests volunteer firefighters are pulling more than their weight

They attend around 63 percent of road crashes and 55 percent of all medical emergencies, according to the United Fire Brigades' Association.

Each year the fire brigade has about 15-thousand medical call outs compared to 10-thousand fire call outs.

Association board chair Peter Dunne says volunteer firefighters are unfazed by paid firefighters going on strike.

He says volunteers won't be getting involved in matters between paid firefighters and Fire Emergency NZ.
