It's all smiles for Te Pati Maori as they've won the Tamaki Makaurau by-election
6 September 2025
Labour's Peeni Henare conceded his loss to Te Pati Maori's Oriini Kaipara when just under 80 percent of the votes had been counted.
Ms Kaipara held the lead throughout the night and holds a comfortable majority with less than five percent of the vote left to count.
The mood was jubilant at Te Pati Maori HQ as Ms Kaipara walked in shortly before Mr Henare conceded.
The by-election came about after the death of Te Pati Maori MP Takutai Tash Kemp in June.
