Health problems aggravated by air pollution contributed to the premature deaths of over three-thousand-300 New Zealanders in one year

A 2016 Health and Air Pollution study found levels of 'particulate matter' less than 2.5 micrometers in size and nitrogen dioxide contributed to the deaths.
It also played a part in more than 13-thousand hospital admissions for respiratory and heart illnesses, and over 13-thousand cases of childhood asthma.
The social cost of premature deaths, healthcare expenses and stymied productivity comes out at a whooping 15.6-billion dollars.
Human activity is to blame for just under half of the cost - with 74 percent from domestic fires and 17 percent from vehicles.
