Calls for more to be done to help prevent road-related tragedies

Calls for more to be done to help prevent road-related tragedies

Research published in today's New Zealand Medical Journal, shows the number of admissions for major trauma at Christchurch Hospital dropped by a massive 42-percent during that period.

The fall is largely put down to a decrease in road-related incidents, as people were mostly staying home.

But after lockdown, major trauma admissions reverted to pre-lockdown levels.

Christchurch Hospital surgeon Dr Christopher Wakeman says more work is needed to fix the issue.

He says we need to improve our roads and provide better education around driving safely.
