    A new treatment is officially on the shelves for people with some types of cancer

    A new treatment is officially on the shelves for people with some types of cancer


    From today, the medication lenvatinib is available for people with specific types and stages of thyroid and liver cancer.

    The drug is taken as an oral capsule at home, stopping the number of cancer cells from increasing and slowing its progression.

    Pharmac chief medical officer Dr David Hughes says 110 more people are expected to benefit.

    He says these medicines are important for peoples' lives, and they're pleased to provide more treatment options.
