Medical costs have surged in New Zealand at a faster rate than a majority of Asia Pacific countries

Aon's revealed the percentage increase in the costs of our medical insurance plans has jumped from 7.4-percent last year - to 14.5-percent this year.

This is the second largest year-on-year increase out of 112 countries - behind only Kazakhstan.

Aon New Zealand health leader Anson Davies says high levels of inflation have impacted on the cost of our medical care.

He say when coupled with sustained pressure on the health system, this leads more people down the path of private healthcare.
