Nangs have left a Christchurch woman in hospital, with cryogenic burns on her throat and she's not the first

Cream canisters containing nitrous oxide, can be bought from dairies and vape shops for food preparation purposes, but the sale for the purpose of inhaling is banned.

An article published in the New Zealand Medical Journal, warns direct inhalation can lead to serious mouth and throat burns.

Christchurch Hospital registrar Sam Hale, says the published the case to raise public awareness.

He says it's not common but it happens enough, with people directly inhaling without a balloon.
