Concerns sliding immunisation rates put New Zealand at risk of a measles outbreak

Concerns sliding immunisation rates put New Zealand at risk of a measles outbreak

Nearly two dozen staff at Woolworths Kelston in Auckland were exposed to the virus by a shopper.

The Fullers-360 worker who'd recently returned from Asia also worked on ferries while infectious.

Auckland University vaccinologist Helen Petousis-Harris says only 77 percent of two-year-olds were fully immunised last year, down from 81 in 2023.

She says less than half of Maori children are believed to be vaccinated, leaving huge pockets of susceptible communities.
