Twelve injured and three gunman at large after Toronto pub shooting

Canadian police say at least 12 people have been injured in a shooting at a Toronto pub and the three male suspects remain at large.

Canadian police say at least 12 people have been injured in a shooting at a Toronto pub and three male suspects remain at large.

Police said they received reports of multiple people being shot near Progress Avenue and Corporate Drive on Friday at about 10:40pm, local time.

Initially, they said a single suspect wearing a black balaclava was seen fleeing in a silver car.

But later they revealed that three gunmen were involved.

None of the injuries were life threatening, police posted on X, adding six of the injured people had gunshot wounds.

The victims in the Friday night shooting were aged in their 20s to mid-50s, the post said.

"Toronto Police is deploying all available resources to locate & arrest those responsible."

People were being warned to stay away from the area.

Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow said she had spoken to police Chief Myron Demkiw and was told "all necessary resources" had been deployed.

"I am deeply troubled to hear reports of a shooting at a pub in Scarborough," she wrote on social media.

"This is an early and ongoing investigation — police will provide further details. My thoughts are with the victims and their families."

Deaths and injuries from gunshot wounds are relatively rare in Canada compared in its southern neighbour.

In 2021, the US had a gun violence death rate of 4.31 per 100,000 people, while Canada's was 0.57.
