A mother will spend more than two years behind bars for injuring her 8-week-old baby

A mother will spend more than two years behind bars for injuring her 8-week-old baby

Ritika was sentenced today for fracturing her infant's ribs and causing her brain to bleed in November 2018.

The injuries were described by one police officer as the worst they have ever seen on a child.

The 35-year-old still denies charges of ill-treatment and cried when the sentencing was handed down, while her family yelled out their support for her as she was taken away.

Her daughter who's now two-years-old is in the care of Oranga Tamariki.
