Police believe justice has been served after a mother was jailed today for more than two years for injuring her eight week-old baby

Police believe justice has been served after a mother was jailed today for more than two years for injuring her eight week-old baby

34-year-old Ritika fractured her baby's ribs and causing her brain to bleed.

Detective Inspector Bridget Doell says the infant's injuries were horrific, and among the worst she's seen on a child.

She says the fact they were inflicted by the baby's own mother, makes it even more appalling.

The little girl, who's now two, is in the care of Oranga Tamariki - and her recovery is reported as "on-going"
