A group of British MPs is pushing for drivers to be banned from using hands-free mobile phones

A group of British MPs is pushing for drivers to be banned from using hands-free mobile phones

The Commons Transport Select Committee says the current law gives a misleading impression that hands-free options are safe.

It's been illegal to use a hand-held phone at the wheel since 2003, but the MPs say hands-free creates the same risk of collision.

An expert told the committee that taking a call on hands-free causes the same amount of distraction as being at the legal limit for alcohol blood level.
