'More than 100 children' dead in US and Israel strike on Iranian school, Iran says

Vision has emerged of crowds of people searching through the rubble of a girls' elementary school in the city of Minab in southern Iran. Iranian authorities say a US and Israeli air strike killed more than 100 children.

More than 100 children in Iran have been killed by US and Israeli air strikes on a school, according to Iranian authorities.

Vision has emerged of crowds of people searching through the rubble of a girls' elementary school in the city of Minab in southern Iran.

Iran's ambassador to the United Nations has accused the US and Israel of targeting the school and other civilian population centres.

"Hundreds of civilians have been killed and injured [as a result of] the aggression and atrocious crime of the United States regime and the Israeli regime, and the deliberate … targeting of civilian infrastructure," Amir-Saeid Iravani told an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council.

"The number of innocent civilians continues to rise. This is not only an act of aggression, it is a war crime, and a crime against humanity.

"The aggressors have also targeted a school in the city of Minab … killing more than 100 children."

The figures from Iranian authorities have not been independently verified by the ABC.

    Crowds dig through rubble

Plumes of dust hung in the air as workers dug through the wreckage of the Shajareh Tayyebeh school, which was mostly destroyed.

What appeared to be scorch marks were visible on the walls of what remained of the building, and most of the glass windows were broken.

Iranian state news agency IRNA reported 63 others were injured from the strike.

Groups of men were seen working together to lift large pieces of rubble, and school bags were pulled out of the debris.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said "dozens of innocent children have been murdered", in a post on social media.

"The destroyed building is a primary school for girls in the south of Iran. It was bombed in broad daylight, when packed with young pupils," Araghchi said.

"Dozens of innocent children have been murdered at this site alone. These crimes against the Iranian people will not go unanswered."

The US and Israel have not immediately responded to Iran's claims.

Reported civilian death tolls from this week's military operations have been the largest in Iran.

Outside of Iran, at least one woman has died in the city of Tel Aviv, according to Israel's rescue services, from an Iranian missile.

The Iraqi Army said at least two people were killed by Iranian strikes targeting the Jurf al-Nasr area in Iraq's Babil province.

In the United Arab Emirates, one Pakistani national was killed by falling debris from a missile strike according to the UAE foreign ministry, and one Asian national was killed after an incident at the Zayed International Airport according to Abu Dhabi Airports.

The US military's Central Command (CENTCOM) said on Sunday morning no US casualties had been reported.

"The Iranian regime claims to have killed 50 U.S. service members. LIE," CENTCOM said on X.

"There have been no reported U.S. casualties.

"The IRGC claims that a U.S. Navy ship was struck by missiles. LIE. No U.S. Navy ship has been struck. The Armada is fully operational."

Reported death tolls in Iran and across the Gulf region continue to climb as the US and Israel continue to mount attacks against Iran, and as Iran launches retaliatory strikes.

Iranian state media has confirmed Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in air strikes.
