The Master and Chief Engineer of a log-carrier ship have been fined thousands of dollars after it ran aground at Port Tauranga in July

The pair pleaded guilty to charges brought against them by Maritime New Zealand at the District Court in Tauranga.
It's cost them a total six-thousand-500 dollars -- for causing unnecessary danger to other people or property.
The Master failed to report an engine problem to the ship's Pilot, while the engineer failed to ensure it was operating.
The maximum penalty for both charges was 12 months' imprisonment or a 10-thousand dollar fine.
