Michael Gielen says he's humbled and excited to step into the role of the new Catholic Bishop of Christchurch

Michael Gielen says he's humbled and excited to step into the role of the new Catholic Bishop of Christchurch

He has been formally appointed by Pope Francis, after his predecessor Paul Martin was appointed Coadjutor Archbishop of Wellington last year.

Bishop Gielen has been Auxiliary Bishop of Auckland since 2020.

He's looking forward to meeting with and listening to the people of Christchurch.
