Julia Stiles got "starstruck" by Taylor Swift

The 43-year-old actress attended the same party as the 35-year-old pop superstar and was "taken aback" when the 'Shake It Off' hitmaker approached her and said some "really nice things" to her

She told PEOPLE magazine: "I was at a party, and Taylor Swift showed up. I wasn't going to bother her, and she actually came over to me and said some really nice things.

"I was so taken aback, it was all a blur. But I know I stood in the presence of Taylor Swift, and she was really sweet."

Elsewhere, Julia also admitted she has come to realise that she is able to function on "very little sleep", which comes in handy being a mother of three children and juggling her acting and directing career.

Asked what the last thing she learned about herself is, she replied: "How much I can function on very little sleep. As a mother and a director, I can still be perfectly capable. And how good I am at multitasking."

The 'Save the Last Dance' star has recently made her directorial debut with the romantic drama 'Wish You Were Here'.

'Wish You Were Here' tells the story of Charlotte (Isabelle Fuhrman), who experiences a whirlwind night of romance with Adam (Mena Massoud) before discovering the next morning that he is terminally ill - and Julia believes that the picture showcases the "fragility of human life".

The star recently told Collider: "I loved that it's a meditation on how we should be so lucky to have a lifetime of memories with the person that we fall in love with, as opposed to how a lot of romantic movies are about the love-at-first-sight idea. It's also largely about taking care of another person, which I think we need more of these days.

"The movie has taken on a life of its own since I first read the book. It's kind of grown, and one of the things that really sticks out to me is it touches a lot on the fragility of human life and how every moment is precious, but then also it's kind of two versions of a love story. It's the love story that they have together in reality, but then it's also the love story that they dream about."
