Liam Hemsworth "jumped off social media" after he was announced as Henry Cavill's replacement in The Witcher

The 35-year-old actor was confirmed as Henry's replacement on the hit TV show back in 2022, but Liam was initially overwhelmed by the reaction and decided to take a break from social media at the time.

Liam - who has replaced Henry as Geralt of Rivia - told Entertainment Weekly: "There was quite a bit of noise and I had to put that aside. It started to become a distraction.

"I dealt with that sort of thing in the past a lot and, you know, at the end of the day, I love making movies and I love telling stories and acting. I just don't want any of that to affect my way of telling the story that I'm trying to tell. I jumped off social media and the internet most of last year."

Liam still recalls being caught completely off-guard by the opportunity.

He shared: "It came out of nowhere. I was as surprised as anyone."

Despite this, Liam accepts that it won't be easy to replace Henry on the show.

The actor admitted to being a huge fan of the former Superman star.

Liam said: "I'm a massive fan of Henry's, and I'm a fan of what he did in the show."

Lauren Hissrich, the show's ex ecutive producer, has been impressed by Liam's approach to the role.

Lauren said: "I think he knew that he was stepping into big shoes. It was really important to him to have certain things [for] continuity - and also certain things that he could invent so that his Geralt could stand on his own two feet."

Henry, 42, announced his departure from the show via a statement in October 2022.

The actor said at the time: "My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures.

"In my stead, the fantastic Mr. Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf. As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam's take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men."
