Keira Knightley was "crunched up against" her co-stars while filming The Woman in Cabin 10

The 40-year-old actress stars alongside the likes of Guy Pearce, Art Malik, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Kaya Scodelario, Daniel Ings and Hannah Waddingham in the new psychological thriller film, but Keira never imagined that filming onboard a boat would be so challenging

She explained to People: "Because the boat was so expensive, we weren't allowed to touch any of the walls, we weren't allowed to walk on any of the carpets, we weren't allowed to sit on anything, we weren't allowed to lean on anything.

"So we really were all, for 12 hours a day - because we weren't allowed on and off either - crunched up against each other. So it wasn't quite the luxury that I'd been envisaging in my head."

Guy, 58, also found shooting the film to be a challenging experience.

The actor explained: "We couldn't really experience or enjoy the yacht as one might because we had a whole film crew with us, and the crew of the yacht were obviously very concerned about the wellbeing and the welfare of the yacht. So there was sort of restricted areas we could go and things we could sit on and we couldn't sit on."

Keira has previously enjoyed huge success with period dramas, but the actress is now in a new phase of her career and she's actively seeking fresh challenges.

Keira explained that she particularly enjoyed working on Black Doves, the spy action thriller series that also starred Ben Whishaw, and Sarah Lancashire.

Asked if she could be tempted back to period dramas, she recently told British Vogue: "I love that genre. I love history and trying to reimagine it. But, I have done a lot of them, so I don't like repeating myself. It has to be a character I haven't played before.

"Right now, I'm looking for stuff that's really entertaining, these proper genre thrillers, and that's what I've loved about Black Doves. It's like, you're going to come home from a difficult day at the office, make yourself a drink and just think, 'What's going to happen next?'"
