Joey King used to pick her skin to try to combat acne

The 26-year-old actress has opened up about how her skincare regime has changed, after going back to bad habits when harsh toners and rough exfoliants didn't work with her breakouts.

She told WWD: "I just didn't know what to do. "I just thought that was the best way to make my acne go away, especially during the stress of being in your early teens and working on a set and wanting your skin to look perfect.

"I had no idea what I was doing."

She has now joined Neutrogena as a brand ambassador, and is the face of the brand's new Evenly Clear collection, which incudes a cleanser, moisturiser, cleansing mask, exfoliant, retinoid and clarifying spray.

It's the company's first codesigned dermatologist range aimed at treating adult acne, and limiting post-acne marks.

The Bullet Train star added: "I'm very grateful that this line exists now, because I feel like I don't have to compromise between hydration and acne care."

Meanwhile, Joey admitted she has "always" wanted to be part of the Neutrogena family.

She said: "My introduction to Neutrogena was probably those early-days commercials with the girls washing their faces and splashing their faces in the sink.

"I always was like, 'Oh my god, I want to do that someday'.

"I've been using Neutrogena for such a long time, since I was young, especially growing up on sets and having lots of makeup on and lots of products being used on my face, so getting to have this partnership come about is truly so exciting."

For the range, Neutrogena worked with its Kenvue global innovation partners, Dr. Dhaval G. Bhanusali and Dr. Muneeb Shah.

Dr. Bhanusali explained how Joey was the "best example" of someone who was simply using the wrong products for them.

He said: "She was somebody who had acne-prone skin, she's had breakouts, she's all those things.

"When we were talking, there weren't many options. I would try this, and I was hoping it helped with this, but it wasn't quite.

"This now lays a foundation for people to use at an affordable, accessible price that they'll benefit from. And that solves an important problem today."
