Police say its lucky they're not dealing with a fatality - in relation to an incident in the Far North

A vehicle veered across the road and hit a Police car responding to an earlier crash on State Highway 14 in Maungatapere.

The officer, and driver of the first vehicle, were in the Police car and both received minor injures.

Another Police officer was hit, attempting to get out of the way.

It's believed the second driver may have fallen asleep.

Northland District Commander, Superintendent Matt Srhoj , believes its a coincidence that it was a police vehicle.

He says it could've happened to a member of the public changing a tire, on the side of the road.
