Recommendations following a fatal bus crash on Mount Ruapehu are being welcomed

Recommendations following a fatal bus crash on Mount Ruapehu are being welcomed

Eleven-year-old Hannah Francis was killed when a bus carrying 31 passengers crashed near Turoa ski field in 2018.

Coroner Brigitte Windley has found the crash was caused by the bus driver's manner of driving.

She's also made 11 recommendations following the crash.

These include mandating seatbelts in alpine environments, road improvements and legislating a code of practice.

NZ Bus and Coach Association.CEO Ben McFadgen says they're good initiatives.

He says they're a step in the right direction and the quicker the industry moves, the better.
