Canterbury Fire and Emergency is already acting on a review of its response to the 650-hectare Port Hills fires last year

Canterbury Fire and Emergency is already acting on a review of its response to the 650-hectare Port Hills fires last year

The findings show learnings from an earlier blaze in 2017.

They also notes the value of the quick and heavy response, preventative measures, and improved communications during the Valentines Day blaze.

Canterbury District Commander Dave Stackhouse says they're working on the recommendations.

Stackhouse says their staff get hammered with calls in early stages, so they're looking at having a better plan to lighten their load.
