Nelson's Mayor is welcoming news a weather radar is on it's way

Nelson's Mayor is welcoming news a weather radar is on it's way

The Government's funding MetService to procure a new radar for Nelson-Tasman to improve the regions ability to monitor and respond to severe weather.

Communities are still recovering from back to back storms that closed dozens of roads and destroyed infrastructure.

Mayor Nick Smith says they've been calling for a rain radar for two decades.

He says it's been nerve-racking knowing parts of the region are being hammered by terrible levels of rain but not knowing where.
