A moderate magnitude 4.2 earthquake has struck the top of the South Island
4 February 2026
GeoNet says the quake hit 10 kilometres east of Seddon at a depth of 9 kilometres just after 12:30 this afternoon.
Nearly 1500 people have reported feeling the shake.
