Ruud has beaten Carlos Alcaraz for the first time in five meetings, issuing a 6-1, 7-5 defeat.

The result could make Alcaraz's advance difficult from the round-robin stage at the season-ending event for the year's top-eight players.

He won two grand slams this year - Wimbledon and the French Open.
