The New England Patriots have fired head coach Jerod Mayo after one NFL season in charge

The New England Patriots have fired head coach Jerod Mayo after one NFL season in charge

    - article from www.rugbyleague.co.nz

Mayo oversaw a four win, 13 loss record with the Patriots comfortably missing the playoffs.

He was sacked just after the Patriots' last game of the regular season - a 23-14 win over the Buffalo Bills.

The victory was an unwanted one for much of the Patriots' fan-base as a loss would have meant they would be picking number one in this year's draft - now they will pick fourth.

The Detroit Lions meet the Minnesota Vikings later to decide top seed - and an opening round bye - in the NFC playoffs.
