Firefighters have spent more than four hours dealing with an early morning house fire in North Canterbury

Emergency services were called to Church Bush Road, Tuahiwi, north of Kaiapoi before 2am.

The house was well alight when they arrived and while a person may have been inside initially - they were able to exit quickly.

Crews were at the scene until about 6.30, dampening down hotspots.
