Could the 140-kilometre-per-hour pace of Matt Fisher earn a call-up as New Zealand test cricketer number 289 tomorrow night against Zimbabwe?

The last five Black Caps debutants have been pace bowlers in the form of Scott Kuggeleijn, Blair Tickner, Will O'Rourke, Ben Sears and Nathan Smith as the hunt loomed to replace the axis of Trent Boult, Tim Southee and Neil Wagner.

Michael Bracewell, who is in selection contention for the first test before heading off to The Hundred competition in England, describes Fisher's influence thus far.

Eight Black Caps have previously made their test debuts in Zimbabwe - the most recent were Doug Bracewell and Dean Brownlie in 2011.
